What is EFY?

“EFY” stands for “Especially for Youth,” and it refers to a seminar program for young people who are members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.  This seminar for youth is typically held for about one week and focuses on community, relationships, and the principles behind their church.  Participants of the EFY program are usually age 14 to 18 years old.

EFY programs are held across various states in the U.S., and most of these week-long seminars are held during the summer months to coincide with the school break.  The seminar sessions are typically run by adult members and counselors of the church, and the venue usually includes room-and-board facilities for the week-long stay of many young people. The basic mission of every EFY program is to help the youth “come unto Christ,” and this has been the program’s mantra ever since it was first held and established back in 1976.

Under the EFY seminar program, participants will be able to engage in various activities like studying the Scriptures and sharing their testimonies.  These tasks are basically aimed at providing a means of fellowship for all participants and giving them lessons regarding the church’s teachings and principles.  Along with the serious stuff, there are also other activities that involve the family.  There are also days and nights dedicated for socializing, playing, and showcasing of talents.  It is also common in EFY gatherings to come up with service projects for various communities.

The EFY program has become successful over the years since its first seminar back in 1976.  With its success, various EFY programs are now held in other countries other than the U.S. and Canada.  These countries include: Australia, France, New Zealand, Puerto Rico, Portugal, and Spain among many others.  As many as 50,000 young members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints take part in an EFY program in many parts of the world annually.
