CUPS Software

CUPS is a software that is used to print from other application particularly the web browser mainly used to view websites or web pages. This software converts the page descriptions from the application you’re using. The converted information from the pages will be easily understood by the printer, thus making it a print-ready document or file.

Every printer manufacturer sets things differently and printing a document could be very complex or not suitable for a user with limited knowledge about the printer. CUPS focuses more on making the printing process easier so the user would not worry how to work things out even though he or she uses the printer for the first time.

If a user print a document for the first time, CUPS will automatically track the status of the printer so that there will be no conflicts that may obstruct the printing process. It will let the user know if the printer is out of paper or it is ready to print a document, etc. Also, this software will look for other available printers connected in your network so that you could print a document or file even from a single main computer.

Every time a user prints a document, CUPS will create a list of queued jobs a user is sending to a printer. Particularly, names of the document, page description, and other pending documents which a user can also cancel the printing job from the CUPS software. When CUPS prints it automatically chooses the best program to convert the pages into a printable format.

When the printing of the document is finished the queued jobs in the list will automatically be removed and moves to other jobs a user prompted. A user can also be notified if there is an error while printing the document.
