CHF exacerbation

CHF refers to congestive heart failure and when the term exacerbation is connected to it, it simply means that the symptoms are worsening. Some medical experts refer to CHF exacerbation as heart decompensation, and either term require a medical emergency. When talking about CHF or congestive heart failure, the main problem is the failure of the heart to pump out enough blood to supply various organs and other parts of the body. When this happens, some patients will be short of breath with their extremities swollen. These symptoms will often be more pronounced when there is decompensation or CHF exacerbation. Along with these symptoms, other patients with CHF exacerbation may also experience severe coughing, extreme fatigue, or irregular heartbeats. When any of these symptoms occur, immediate medical attention is advised.

Various heart conditions and diseases may trigger CHF exacerbation. People prone to have it are those with myocardial infarctions and ischemic heart diseases. Those with problems in their heart valves may also have congestive heart failure and possible exacerbation at some point of their lives. Other triggering factors for CHF and CHF exacerbation are uncontrolled hypertension, smoking, diabetes mellitus, and obesity. Oftentimes, the exacerbation of CHF symptoms is directly linked to the other medical conditions of patients. Those with cardiac arrhythmias for example may also result to problems for the heart in terms of its cardiac output. Due to the irregular contraction of heart muscles, the blood that is pumped out for the body will be inconsistent in terms of volume. Oftentimes, the blood volume is not enough or adequate to supply all the organs and essential parts of the body. When this happens, heart failure will occur and the symptoms will worsen especially if the patient is suffering from other heart ailments or diseases. To avoid complications and possible death, emergency assistance must be given immediately.
