What is EZprint.exe?

EZprint.exe is a file associated with Lexmark printers and products. As the term suggests, EZprint.exe is designed for “easy” printing of pictures and/or documents when using Lexmark devices like printers. In the case of mobile storage devices like USB thumb drives or removable disks, when these are compatible with Lexmark devices, then the EZPrint utility will be activated to give easy options for printing and/or easy storage.

EZprint.exe is the executable file of the main EZPrint software from Lexmark. Basically what happens is that the EZprint.exe or utility will be launched if a Lexmark-compatible USB thumb drive or SD memory card or stick is inserted to the computer. With the EZprint software utility, users will be given several easy options for quick printing of pictures and documents, quick storage, quick editing, and quick file transfers. With EZprint.exe, overall file management including printing is made easy and quick.

The file EZprint.exe may be encountered by users during startup as it may try to locate removable storage devices to “manage”. But this file is a non-essential file to the operating system and so may be terminated from running automatically in the background. To terminate this process, one just needs to access the Task Manager and stop EZprint.exe from running. But there are also cases that the EZprint.exe may become corrupted that it will launch the EZprint utility intermittently. If users suspect that this file may contain a virus or may be a virus in itself, it is best to coordinate with computer experts immediately to avoid corruption of other important files. Sometimes there may problems with the computer registry files in which the EZprint utility from Lexmark may not function properly. For registry concerns, some free software offer registry clean-up services and may correct errors relating to EZprint.exe. But then again, expert advice may be necessary in these cases.

What is the meaning of “Duh”?

The term “Duh” is an expression that has a hint of sarcasm from the person saying it. Duh literally means “of course” but with some sarcastic flavor to it. This term is not just used to agree to something or an idea by implying that the particular idea or situation is right and worth agreeing to. Using “Duh” means more than that and actually contains sarcasm and perhaps some disgust that a particular idea or situation happens to be very obvious and is considered a “no-brainer”.

Like when a group of friends witness another person being ridiculed in front of a class with this person’s face turning red, some witnesses to the scene may later share this story to another person and exclaim that the person being ridiculed must have felt really embarrassed in front of his/her class. And since it is pretty obvious that this particular situation is very embarrassing, the person being told to about this story may respond with “Duh!” which simply implies that his/her friend doesn’t have to explain in detail about the situation to make it embarrassing for the character of the story. In obvious situations like this one, “Duh!” is an appropriate thing to say.

Other than its application on something that’s really obvious, the expression “Duh!” may also be used for a similar situation wherein someone is expected to know something already. Like for example a group of students are chatting and realizes that they will be having a quiz the next day. And when one in the group points out that he/she may have to bring books for studying at home, other members may respond with “Duh!” since it is not necessary to blurt out the necessity of books for studying for a particular quiz.

The expression “Duh!” may be used quite appropriately in some situations because it connotes some form of sarcasm, but other people may get offended by this statement. What may be obvious for one person may not be that obvious for the other and so the person being responded with “Duh!” may get offended or get hurt with the term.

What is DTM paint?

DTM or “Direct to Metal” paint is a good choice of paint for various un-primed metal surfaces. Whether the metal surface is for the interior or exterior, DTM paints are recommended for people who want to “do it themselves”. Since DTM paints do not need a primer on the metal surface, it makes for a faster painting job. This is why, many non-professionals use DTM paints for their metal painting needs.

Most DTM paints have an acrylic resin and are specially formulated for use directly to metal without the usual primer preparation. But for metal that is previously painted and with flaky surfaces, a person must still prepare it for painting with DTM paint. It doesn’t literally mean that DTM paints put directly on any metal surface will make the paint job smooth and durable. Although, one can definitely paint on any metal surface directly using DTM paints, surface preparation is still necessary for a smoother and more durable paint job. In the case of previously painted metal surfaces, it may require some treatment with a solution involving water and bleach. Other surfaces may also require scraping and sanding for a smoother finish. After the surface preparation, DTM paints can be applied smoothly and easily.

Since most DTM paints are based in acrylic, this type of paint is also durable and may last for a long time. Most of these paints are also able to dry very quickly resulting to an easier and faster paint job. Several varieties also have controlled odor for a pleasant painting experience. This is especially beneficial to people who may be allergic to the smell of paint. But despite the very high quality of DTM paints, many people still prefer to use primers before the application of any metal paint, including DTM paints. For these people, primers still provide more durability in terms of resistance to chemicals, extreme weather, and corrosion. So even if DTM paints are formulated for use without primers, they may also be used after primer application to any metal surface.

What is FMP?

FMP or Fixed Maturity Plan is a type of mutual fund that involves investing in debt with a maturity date that is pre-determined and fixed. Through FMPs, investors will be able to earn some income by means of interest payments but with quite minimal risk. Fixed Maturity plans are also referred to as close-ended plans which basically mean that no additional investment is allowed in situations wherein the NFO or new fund offer closes. So for example a particular NFO is open only for 2 days, marketing and investing activities should be done within this particular period. After 2 days, the NFO will be closed and no further investment to the Fixed Maturity Plan is allowed.

Fixed Maturity Plans share some characteristics of a typical fixed deposit bank account. The major difference is that in a fixed deposit at any given bank, the maturity amount is guaranteed by the bank. It simply implies that a depositor will definitely get his/her deposited amount from the bank since its status is guaranteed. FMPs on the other hand have “indicated” maturity amounts which simply mean that the returns of investment are only “indicated” but not guaranteed by the bank.

FMPs are usually invested in various money market instruments, CDs or commercial deposits, corporate types of bonds, and commercial papers. There are also rare instances wherein Fixed Maturity Plans are invested on fixed bank accounts or deposits. But wherever the FMP goes to, the only basic rule is to place it in something that has a similar maturity date. If the FMP has a duration of 2 years for example, investments on commercial papers must also have a maturity of 2 years. With this scenario, no buying and selling of the FMP takes place within the duration of the plan. And this lowers the price risk exposure of the investor.

What is APC Powerchute?

APC Powerchute refers to a computer program developed by American Power Conversion. This program was created by the company for the purpose of automating the control of the UPS units which they also manufacture. UPS or Uninterrupted Power Supply units are very important to have during power outages or system breakdowns. Whether one only has a few electronic devices and computers or a large network, the UPS unit/s would always come in handy when there is no power. With APC Powerchute, the UPS’s functions are enhanced and maximized to provide power when there’s none and to control the temporary shutdown of various computer systems and networks servers.

With APC Powerchute, companies are able to protect their computer systems from possible data corruption due to improper shutdowns during power outages. This particular program specifically controls the UPS system or unit to detect if it is unattended and shuts it down accordingly. The hibernation feature also speeds up the recovery time of computer systems. These basic features are very important and valuable to have especially for companies that rely on computer and automated systems for their entire operations.

APC Powerchute is also able to make logs of the UPS status. This means that the whole power supply system of a particular company is regularly monitored for system efficiency and data security. One doesn’t also have to worry about battery failure of UPS units because through this program, battery health is constantly monitored and updates are given if certain batteries need immediate replacement.

The best thing about the APC Powerchute program is that it is able to run on various operating systems and platforms. With multi-platform functionality, many companies can take advantage of this programs’ benefits to their power management systems. Compatibility with older UPS units is also not a concern because APC Powerchute supports many older UPS models. Installation and configuration is also made easy to simply the whole process and benefit even generic users of the system.

Empirical research is a type of research that is done either through one’s experience, direct observation, or experiment. Without these basic principles, a research may not be classified as empirical. If the research is done this way, one should easily be able to answer his/her own questions with corresponding evidence. The evidence involved in empirical research may be quantitative or qualitative in nature. This simply means that the data that resulted from observation or experiments may either be interpreted with a quantitative value or qualitative property.

Empirical type of research is also the main principle in doing any scientific research. Any scientific research must also be done according to the basic principles of experience, observation, and doing experimentations. Through a hypothesis or theory, a certain concern may be tested or experimented to come up with a result that is backed by reliable data or evidence. But in order for scientific research to be accepted as factual or accurate, the activities involved must not rely on basic observation and instead focus on testing a hypothesis through experimentations.

The methods of empirical research typically involve five stages namely observation, induction, deduction, testing, and evaluation. The first part of the process involves observation and this is where one will collect details for the hypothesis. The induction stage is where the final hypothesis is formulated. The hypothesis will then go through a series of deduction and testing stages to come up with the results. The result of this experimentation will then be evaluated to come up with a conclusion.

In the real world, one may want to know if a certain plant species will grow faster and bigger according to the amount of sunlight it is exposed to. This question may then form part of the hypothesis that sunlight exposure increases the growth rate of the plant species involved for example. This hypothesis will then be tested to come up with results. The results of this sample experiment shall then be analyzed to come up with a final answer, conclusion or generalization.

Innate immunity refers to a type of immunity that is so-called inborn. It is like a situation wherein the babies automatically inherit the their parents ability to combat possible diseases for example. In other terms, innate immunity may also be referred to as a non-specific type of immunity. This is due to the fact that the ability of a person or host to battle infectious organisms for example is considered not specific. This type of action against the body’s harmful pathogens is only the first line of defence and does not provide long-term protection. This is opposite to another type of immunity called adaptive or acquired immunity wherein the person involved or the host will be able to develop new ways of combating infections by means of adaptation. But aside from human beings, innate immunity may also be applied to plant life.

In the case of human beings, the skin is actually the first line of defence against possible attacks from bacteria or viruses. With the skin intact, the body will be able to protect the internal parts of the body from harm or injury. In the facial area, the nasal passages also provide innate immunity in the sense that nasal hair will filter harmful particles from reaching the lungs. The nasal pathway also secretes mucus to trap big particles from the air which may invade the lungs or block the airway.

Internally, innate immunity is provided by one’s white blood cells. These cells are responsible for providing a balance to the body’s overall immune system. These cells act to identify which particles are threats to the body or not. White blood cells also act to eliminate these harmful particles in the body to prevent injury and/or illness. Over time, these same cells are also the body’s agents in acquiring new types of immunities.

What is annexation?

Annexation is term that refers to the binding of two different things into one part. It can be applied to a variety of things including buildings, properties, and territories. In its legal context, annexation relates to the consolidation of two different things or entities. In this case, the thing being “annexed” is usually the smaller part between the two things involved.

In the case of buildings for example, when there is a smaller building adjacent to a bigger building. The smaller structure may be joined to the main building by means of annexation. In this particular example, the smaller of the two buildings is the one being annexed.

Annexation may also be applied to countries that expand their territories. By means of annexation, the existing size of a country in terms of land area and even the population is increased by consolidating other nearby areas. Usually the consolidation of the territories involved requires that the area being annexed agree to be joined with the bigger territory. In terms of politics, people in the area for annexation may choose to hold an election if all the people in their area agree or disagree to be part of the bigger territory. In this particular case, not only will the smaller territory be joined to the bigger territory, but the people will also be joined to the population of the bigger territory.

But annexation is a thing of the past in terms of countries wanting to expand their territories. Annexation was deemed illegal and unfair because it only brought advantages to the territory or country that is considered bigger and stronger. Territories with smaller land area and population were looked at as the weaker side and most often forced into an agreement to be annexed by the bigger territory. After World War II, the process of annexation is invalidated based on international law.

What is armistice?

An armistice is like a truce between warring parties or groups. It involves suspension of any fighting while the warring parties try to discuss between themselves all their concerns or demands regarding their fight. In the case of war, an armistice doesn’t mean that the fighting is over just because the parties involved are in ceasefire mode. It simply means that both parties agreed to some kind of peaceful negotiation and discussion involving each of their sides of various concerns and grievances.

The term “armistice” is a derivation of two Latin words namely “arma” and “statium”. The former literally means weapons while the latter refers to “stopping”. From its literal meaning, one can easily understand the origin and meaning of this particular word.

Another characteristic of an armistice is that no members of the warring parties actually surrender. No party is also declared the winner of the war and hostilities involved. The parties basically discuss with each other possible resolutions to their conflict or the next steps they should take if they are still in disagreement with their issues. In the eyes of international law, armistice may have a fixed or unfixed duration. Fixed duration armistice refers to a legal agreement between warring parties to hold the ceasefire at a specified period of time. After the agreed period expires, the fighting between the parties involved may continue. Unfixed durations meanwhile refer to armistices that allow warring parties to resume fighting anytime they please as long as there is some form of notification.

Several armistices were already recorded over the history of the world. One of most famous so-called ceasefire happened back during the time of World War I. Back then, the ceasefire between nations was called simply “The Armistice” and it marked the end of the First World War in 1918. The effectivity date of the legal agreement was on November 11, 1918, which is considered to be the “eleventh hour of the eleventh day of the eleventh month”.

What is Listeriosis?

Listeriosis is a type of infection or food-poisoning that is caused by the bacteria called “Listeria monocytogenes”. For most healthy people, infection from this bacterium may not cause serious symptoms since the disease is considered self-limiting. But if the affected persons involved are pregnant, they may suffer from miscarriages and/or transfer the infection to their babies. Those with AIDS and other serious illnesses may also easily get listeriosis.

When infected with listeriosis, people may suffer from fever, headache, or muscle pains. Some may also have stomach problems and nausea. In its serious case, the infection may lead to brain abscess, convulsions, meningitis, and even death. The “Listeria monocytogenes” bacterium may come from either the soil or water. This simply means that it could be found in vegetables and root crops that people eat. Good sources of this bacterium are animals and dairy products, especially milk that is not pasteurized.

Listeriosis is typically diagnosed through a physical examination and medical history. Blood may also be extracted from patients to conclude if they indeed are infected with the listeria bacterium. As with many bacterial infections, patients with severe symptoms are usually given with antibiotics. For most healthy people though, no medication may be needed and advised.

Prevention is the key in battling listeriosis. The main advice by doctors is that people should know how to properly handle food. This is in terms of buying, storing, cooking, and/or preparing any food item. When going to the grocery to buy some fish products for example, these must be separated from chicken and pork meat. When preparing and/or cooking food, one must make sure to have clean hands. Storage should also be taken seriously to make sure that food stays clean and germ-free. Experts also suggest reading food labels especially the cooking and storage instructions. For people who are pregnant and those that have existing serious medical illnesses, they should avoid eating raw food, un-pasteurized milk products, refrigerated meat-based spreads, and salads bought from restaurants.
